Majorly Impressive Round For Miner

Katy Native Shoots 66 Walking off the 18th green with a seemingly disappointing bogey, Albert Miner walked to the scoring area composed, keeping his opening round tally to himself before handing his card into the scoring official. His card showed an incredible eight birdie performance en route to an opening round 66 at the first round of the Legends Junior Tour Houston Area Junior Championship at Blackhorse Golf Club's North Course. Miner used a stretch of four birdies in five holes from #8-#12 to vault to a four stroke lead over the stunned field. Brian Swanson and Brian Smith will join Miner in Tuesday's final pairing, after both shot two under par 70 on Monday. Will Zalatoris of Plano will take a three shsot lead into the final round tomorrow in the Boys 14 & Under division after shooting 76 on the lengthy Blackhorse layout. Playing at the longest yardage of the tour season to date in this division (6,378 yards), the diminutive Zalatoris played solid golf, making 10 consecutive pars in the middle of his scorecard. Last week's champion at Onion Creek, John Rafael currently sits in second place after shooting 78. A pair from Sugar Land, TX sit as the leader and runner up after the opening round. Ryanne Haddow shot a 78 with 12 pars on Monday to take a two shot lead over fellow Sugar Lander Katy Cardno, who shot an 80 highlighted by a birdie on the 11th hole.
