Reyna wins inaugural Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic
Lee takes Girls 15-18 title

Austin, Texas - Brandon Reyna of Mission won the inaugural Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic at Onion Creek Club with a par on the first playoff hole. Reyna’s final round 68 was good enough to get into a three-way playoff with Tyler Holmes of Richardson and Kevin Sooch of Austin.

Reyna, 18, began the day five strokes behind first-round leader, Alex Ellis, but Ellis was unable to close the deal as he struggled to a final round 74 to miss the playoff by one stroke. With the victory, Reyna is now exempt into the upcoming Texas State Junior Championship. He was scheduled to play in a qualifier in Mission on Friday.

Brian Smith of Corpus Christi carded the low round of the day and the tournament with a three-under par 67.

The action in the Boys 14 & Under division came down to the wire as John Rafael of Corpus Christi held off fellow-competitors Will Martinez and Stratton Nolen. Rafel parred his final two holes (Nos. 8 and 9) as Martinez and Nolen both played them in two-over. Rafael’s victory also earns him an exemption into the Texas State Junior Championship.

Sandra Lee of Carrollton finally broke through for her first Legends Junior Tour victory. Lee, 15, and fellow-competitor Christine Lin both shot 77 to give Lee a two-day total of 150 to Lin’s 151. Lee had three previous top-5 finishes.

Lindsey McCurdey rebounded from an opening round 93 with a final round 79 to win the Girls 14 & Under division by seven strokes over Nicole Autrique of Mexico and Julia Beck of Austin. Autrique was awarded the runner-up trophy by virtue of her final round 87.

The Legends Junior Tour would like to thank the Demaret family for allowing us to honor a true Texas ’Legend.’ Jimmy Demaret won 31 PGA Tour events in a career that spanned 22 years. He was a three-time winner of the Masters and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1983. In 1974, Mr. Demaret co-founded Onion Creek Club along with Jimmie Connolly. He used the natural lay of the land as the basis for his design of the course.
