Scott grabs early lead at Texas State Junior Championship
AUSTIN, Texas - Jade Scott was the early clubhouse leader at the 81st annual Texas State Junior Championship at Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin. His first round four-under par 68 held up throughout the day to give him a four shot lead in the Boys 15-18 division (par 72, 6,903 yards).
Scott teed off in the fourth group off No. 1 on the Fazio Foothills course and was able to post his score before the wind picked up and the heat instensified. Seven players including 2007 Legends Junior Tour Player of the Year Hunter Brown are tied for second at even-par 72.
Chad Cobian of Leander recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3, ninth hole. Cole Kennedy of Texarkana carded four birdies on his way to an opening round 68 to lead the Boys 14 & Under division (par 71, 6,342 yards) by one over Scott Scheffler of Dallas. Christina Stringham battled the heat and the hilly Crenshaw Cliffside course on her way to an opening round 72 in the Girls 15-18 division (par 71, 5,903 yards). Her one-over par score was good enough for a one stroke lead over Christina Cantu. Stringham made four birdies and five bogeys during her round. Laken Trahan of the Woodlands finished with three straight birdies en route to an opening round 78 in the Girls 14 & Under division (par 71, 5,142 yards). Trahan leads by two over Sydney Williams. This premiere Championship conducted by the Legends Junior Tour boasts one of the best fields of the year, with nearly 300 top-level competitors participating. | |
