Round 2 Recap

Blustery conditions for first two rounds of Tour Championship
Brown, Davis and Kirkpatrick lead

FRANKSTON, Texas - Blustery, cool conditions made scoring extremely difficult for the first two rounds of the Legends Junior Tour Championship at Pine Dunes GC in Frankston. With temperatures hovering around 50 degrees and a steady wind of 15-20 mph, players were forced to hit shots they were not accustomed to. One only player, Hunter Brown of Richardson, was able to break par for either round over the 36-holes. He leads the Boys 15-18 division by two strokes over Brad Lyle, also of Richardson.

Alex Ellis of Austin grabbed the early lead after an opening round 72. His even-par round was good enough for a four shot advantage heading into the afternoon. He could not keep the momentum, however, as he struggled to a second round 78. He sits alone in third place, three shots behind Brown.

Branson Davis of McKinney will take a two shot lead into tomorrow’s final round in the Boys 14 & Under division. His opening round 77 left him one stroke behind first-round leader Will Zalatoris but a second round 75 was three shots better than Zalatoris’ 78.

Golden’s Kelsey Kirkpatrick is a perfect five-for-five in the win column this year. She’ll go for the undefeated season tomorrow after rounds of 81-77 left her five shots clear of the field in the Girls division. Chaney Uhles held the lead after opening with a five-over par 79, but she struggled in the afternoon and will have to play well to overtake Kirkpatrick.

Players qualified for the Tour Championship based on their standing on the Player of the Year points list. The top-30 Boys 15-18, top-12 Boys 14 & Under and top-12 Girls earned invitations to the event. The final round will begin at 7:30 AM off #1 tee. This is the final individual event of the year on the Legends Junior Tour schedule. Next weekend’s Jackie Burke Cup at Miramont CC will complete the season.
