North team dominates at fourth annual Jackie Burke Cup
Win is first in four tries

BRYAN, Texas - The North team completely dominated the South at the fourth annual Legends Junior Tour Jackie Burke Cup at Miramont CC. This season-ending event featured twelve of the top junior golfers from North Texas versus twelve from the South. The dividing line used to separate the two teams was the 31st parallel running through Salado.

The North team took a commanding 16-8 lead into today’s Singles matches after dominating yesterday’s Foursome and Four-Ball matches. Needing only nine of a possible 24 points in Singles, the North closed it out early after sweeping the Boys 14 & Under and Girls matches. Each match was worth two points, with one point being awarded to each team if a match was tied after 18-holes.

Much like the Ryder Cup, participants earned a place on their respective team by virtue of their play throughout the year. Players were selected based on their standing on the Legends Junior Tour Player of the Year points list following the Tylerpaper.com Championship. Each team consisted of the top-8 players in the Boys 15-18 division, top-2 Boys 14 & Under and top-2 Girls from each region.

The South team won the three previous matches at Champions GC (2005), Spanish Oaks GC (2006) and Whispering Pines GC (2007). Next year’s matches will be held at Crown Colony GC in Lufkin.

The Jackie Burke Cup was the final event on the 2008 Legends Junior Tour calendar. We would like to thank all of our players, host facilities, and volunteers for all of their support throughout the year. We look forward to another great in year in 2009. The season will kick off Jan. 16-17 at Dallas Athletic Club.
